Bunny in Gouache

While sitting pondering the things I may do today, I made this.

For whatever reasons, I took a sharp turn from watercolor (my mainstay go to art medium) and pencils (which for whatever reason was an out of the blue revelation at the New Year) and just thought hmmm, let me dig out my gouache and give that a revisit. When I did I realized my gouache box was of the older model and updated with a 112 half pot jelly gouache.

After getting the gouache set up, the idea of just opening every sketchbook I have (all at the same time) came into fruition.

(My partner in art said – so kinda like having a whole lotta tabs open!)

🤭

Well, those ‘tabs’ all open, for me, has been freeing. I have a LOT of curious creations all down in one grouping, all staring at me, all at different stages of started.

And with that, this bunny appeared as I was pondering what to do for the day.

I think I’m getting some messages on the superpowers of gouache. For this, and a couple pieces prior, a kind of dabby-dabby technique has emerged. Do you know what I mean? Is there a recognizable universal type word for such a way to paint with gouache?

Whatever it is, it’s an exciting discovery, fueling my ever wild curiosity.

Have you tried gouache? What kinds of techniques are you using? What subjects do you like to paint? Do you add colored pencils?

So many questions…
